From September 19 to 28, 2014, the Rédeas de Ouro competition (Golden Reins) will take place at the Centro Hípico Querência in Porto Alegre, RS. Hardly have the emotions of the Expointer cooled, and another major event of the Criollo horse breed is already beginning in the state.

The Rédeas de Ouro was launched in 2013 and has greatly energized the Criollo horse market. In the Open and Amateur categories, it consists of two events: the National Championship for horses of any age and the Potro do Futuro (“Colt of the Future”), exclusive to four-year-old horses. The success of the first edition is reflected now in its second year.

This year the competition brings new features, such as a new category, the Snaffle Bit, exclusive to three-year-old horses that may be presented in a snaffle bit or hackamore. Another highlight is the 1st Rédeas de Ouro Auction, which will bring together the best bloodlines in a single venue.

Considered the new national passion among Criollo breed enthusiasts, the Rédeas de Ouro is already a success, as pointed out by Antônio Corrêa, coordinator of the Reining Subcommittee of the Brazilian Association of Criollo Horse Breeders (ABCCC), in an interview:

“The expectation is for a bigger event, both in the level of participants and the audience. The venue will feature a series of innovations. Many competitors from last year will return. Those who hesitated to come in 2013 saw the success of the first edition and will confirm their presence this time and come in full force.”

The competition will feature horses such as SJ Rodopio, the only Criollo horse ever to qualify for two editions of the World Equestrian Games (2010 in the United States and 2014 in France), and Duque do Caajara, two-time national champion of the ABCCC. Other stars will include Alma de Gato Calabassa (5th place in the Potro do Futuro in the United States), Quixote do 38 (best Criollo of the 2013 ANCR Potro do Futuro), and Marajá do 38, two-time state reining champion in Rio Grande do Sul.

It will also feature Laércio Casalecchi, member of the Brazilian Reining Team at the 2014 World Equestrian Games. Laércio will bring four horses to compete in the Open category, along with several clients who will compete in the Amateur divisions. Among the horses is last year’s runner-up, Berro da Água da Quinta.
